We are thrilled to welcome back City Archaeolgist Joe Bagley to our site. As you will recall, he conducted a thorough dig of the Washington Garden over the summer. This time, he will be exploring our crypt! Of course, this means our regular Behind-the-Scenes (BTS) Tour or Tolerance & Tombstones (T&T) Tour are off limits! For the next few weeks, we’ll be offering a new specialized tour.
30-40 minute tour
Offered on the hour @ 10, 11, 1, 2, 3, 4
If these walls could talk! This special 30 minute guided tour offers a more in-depth view of the Old North’s architecture and building history while you explore two areas of the church only accessible on this tour. Climb the stairs of the Old North steeple to the bell ringing chamber where the teen-aged Paul Revere worked as a bell ringer. Explore the timeline of the steeple, which has been toppled twice by hurricanes in its storied history. Listen and learn about the workings of the oldest set of change-ringing bells in North America. Visit the second floor gallery of the church, see the organ up close, and view the results from a recent historic paint study. You’ll have the opportunity to consider the visual elements of the interior architecture within the context of the 18th and 19th centuries and decode their meaning by looking, discussing, and looking again. There’s always more than meets the eye!
Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for children, students, military, and seniors, and $4 for children under the age of 12.
