Coronovirus Update from the Wardens and Bridge Vicar:
Dear Old North family,
In an abundance of caution, and with growing concern over the increasing spread of COVID-19 in our neighborhood and larger community, we have made the decision to suspend worship and all parish gatherings at Old North Church (Christ Church) until further notice. The Old North Historic Site will be closed as well.
Yesterday afternoon, Bishop Alan Gates, in a letter to all parishes in our Diocese, gave his support to churches that choose to take this step.
This is not a decision we come to lightly or are happy to make. Worship is the heart of our parish community and a highlight of the week for many of us. The opportunity to be together and share fellowship and friendship brings us great joy. Yet, given the quickly changing situation with the spread of the virus, we believe it prudent to take this step. The health and well-being of our parish community, staff and visitors is our primary concern. We will reassess this decision weekly and be ready to reopen for worship as soon as it is advisable.
Rev. Ellie and our Music Director, Libor Dudas, are looking into ways to provide worship experiences electronically, during the weeks we will not be open. Stay tuned for more details.
We have a great opportunity to care for one another during this unprecedented time. Rev. Ellie and members of the Vestry are exploring how we can remain in close touch with one another during this time of social distancing. Please let her know if you have a pastoral need or concern, or if you are able to be a resource to other parishioners who may be in need of assistance. We will continue our Piccoli Regali ministry to ensure that our senior neighbors receive the food assistance they need.
Old North Church has withstood many challenges throughout her almost 300 year old history. This time it’s our challenge. We take heart that our community is resilient, faithful, committed and bound to one another. We will get through this together.
In the Morning
This is another day, O Lord. We know not what it will bring forth, but make us ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If we are to stand up, help us to stand bravely. If we are to sit still, help us to sit quietly. If we are to lie low, help us to do it patiently. And if we are to do nothing, let us do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give us the Spirit of Jesus. Amen.
