Puritan New England… 2026?

Puritan New England…2026?
March 25, 2026
Live on Zoom
7:00 – 8:30pm

The Puritans and New England — most people today can’t think of one without the other. That’s because while the English religious group we call the Puritans migrated from England to South America, the Caribbean, and Canada, it’s only in what they called New England that their culture became well-defined — and dominant.

Today, centuries after the last Puritan lived here, what do modern-day New Englanders inherit from these well-known but not well-understood people? Dr. Lori Rogers-Stokes will share three important ideas from the 17th century that New Englanders are still practicing today.

Lantern & Luminaries with Keith Lockhart

Lanterns & Luminaries
Thursday, April 16, 2026, 7:00 – 9:30pm

Old North Church @ 193 Salem Street, Boston, MA
Honoring Keith Lockhart, Conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra

You’re invited to Lanterns & Luminaries: a special evening at the historic Old North Church celebrating the anniversary of Paul Revere’s famous “two if by sea” lantern signal in April of 1775. Keith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra, will accept the Third Lantern Award, which is presented annually to an individual who embodies the values symbolized in Old North’s iconic signal lanterns: leadership, courage, hope, tenacity, and active citizenship. As we prepare to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday on July 4, 2026, we can’t think of anyone better to usher in this momentous occasion than the steward of America’s Orchestra.

The Lanterns & Luminaries program will include festive music, a dramatic reading of “Paul Revere’s Ride,” the presentation of the Third Lantern Award, and an inspiring keynote address from Mr. Lockhart. The evening concludes with a fun gathering where guests can enjoy refreshments and witness the lighting of the lanterns in the church steeple.

Lanterns & Luminaries 2026

Throughout the year, Old North Illuminated hosts authors, professors, and other experts for Speaker Series events. In honor of the 250th anniversary of Old North Church’s famous lantern signal in 2025, this year’s Speaker Series includes talks that focus on revolutions — their origins, their societal transformations, and their complex legacies. We hope you’ll join us.
Our 2025 Speaker Series events are brought to you in part by Hub Town Tours.
